"Zap & Hide" from Jane Iredale for Acne and Ingrown Hairs

Available in February at Point Pleasant Wellness, a holistic day spa in Ft Lauderdale, will be a new acne product from Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics (a dual ended product design that is similar to the "Sugar & Butter" lip exfoliator and hydrator). The treatment side contains the new acne-fighting peptide called Tego Policosanol which reduces excess sebum secretion without drying the skin. It also inhibits the growth of microorganisms while tea tree leaf oil adds antiseptic qualities. On the camouflage side there are blemish-fighting properties with mineral pigment for coverage.

If you have an active blemish or pimple, you can use the treatment side morning and night to help fight the bacteria and to minimize the size of the blemish.

It is also a great product for men who have problems with ingrown hairs. Applying the "Zap" to the ingrown will help heal and fight the bacteria. Then use "Hide" to cover or cancel out the redness.

Resolving chronic skin blemishes and acne

As told to Jessie Keener by Joanne Latona:

Often my clients ask me why acne outbreaks continue, despite their facial treaments at the spa. The answer can sometimes lie within the largest internal organ in our body, the colon. Good, healthy colon function directly affects the quality of our skin.

Both our skin and our colon absorb and release chemicals, water, and metabolites. Of course, our colons absorb food and nutrients. If the colon is not releasing the waste by-products, a toxic build-up can occur. This build-up can be happening whether we are having a daily bowel movement or not! In fact, experts agree that a healthy bowel function occurs as many times per day as the number of meals we eat. Therefore, if we are eating three square meals a day, we should have three bowel movements a day as well. When the colon becomes toxic, it overloads the skin, which is trying to do it's releasing function. The result can be skin eruptions in the form of acne, excema, psoriasis, etc. What to do? Here at Point Plesant, Nutritonist Jessie Keener suggests removing certain inflamming foods such as milk products and grains that contain gluten. (Se our gluten-free class in January's schedule of events) Also, drink lots more pure water. Really aim for those 80 ounces dailyof water, and note: nothing else counts as water except water--not tea, juice etc.

Minimize dehydrating beverages like coffe, alcohol and sodas. Maximize fiber in your diet, using flax and chia seeds (may be ground) as well as psyllium. Making these changes can help add years to your life and give you that clear, glowing skin you've longed for.
